Traveling by bicycle may be a dream for all of us, but although we perceive traveling as cycling by the beach, there are also those who think big and travel the world by bicycle. One of them is Tolga Tevke Güney. His first cycling adventure started with going to Olympos with the bike he bought with his internship salary.
After cycling became his passion, he started researching on social media and the internet. He toured Europe with Interrail. He realized that traveling had a different side and turned his first route to Turkey.
“We visited 12-13 countries for a month, and my perspective on life completely changed after this European trip. “I saw that such a life was possible.”
After traveling to many countries from Europe to Asia, he decided to embark on a great adventure by bicycle. He worked various jobs so he assembled every part of the bike himself. When he went abroad, he sold what he bought and paid for his expenses.
When everything was completed, he took his bike and set out to live and observe. The reason he chose the bicycle was to experience the moment quickly while traveling and slowly observe what was happening. Our enthusiast, who states that he has been actively traveling for about five years, states that when he has trouble with money, he saves up and continues traveling again where he left off.
“I think what makes a place beautiful is the people you meet and talk to there.”
You may think: Traveling is nice, people are nice, but what happens in situations that create obstacles to going abroad? The most important of these is visa. Continuing on without giving up will be the best solution to the negativity.
“I was rejected twice for the visa. It was for the USA and Ireland. But both were education visas. Other than that, I haven’t needed a visa in South America so far. “If a visa is required, I am already collecting the necessary documents.”
Tolga Tevke Güney states that he does not have a specific route, he stops wherever he wants. After learning what he can, he moves on. Beyond satisfying, there is also satisfaction. Although he sometimes does volunteer work in the places he travels, he can also earn money by selling bracelets on the road.
Our cycling enthusiast calls out to those who have made traveling a passion or want to start somewhere:
“Are you not afraid?’ they ask. Am I not afraid? I stay nights in the mountains, in the middle of nowhere. But you get used to it after a while. Fear keeps you on guard.”
